Answer:
To capture the heartbeat sounds, all you need from an equipment standpoint is a standard PC stereo
cable with 3.55 mm stereo connectors. Click on the following link for a closer view and specs on the
type of cable required
(http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=2002&sku=21062). Like many
people, you may already have one of these at home. If not, they can be found on-line or at most
retailers where electronics are sold (RadioShack, BestBuy, WalMart, Target, etc.).
One end of the cable would plug into the doppler (there is a headphone symbol near the port) and the other
end would go into the computer port where you would typically have a mic plugged in. Unplug the mic if
necessary and plug in the new cable that is connected to the doppler. Microsoft Windows includes a Sound
Recorder in the Accessories/Entertainment folder that easily produces .wav audio files. You would record
the audio the same way you would record something from your mic (you may need to turn the computer speakers
off while recording in order to generate a clear audio signal). There is no limit on the length of the
recording and many customers choose to record a voice introduction (via your computer's mic) prior to
recording the heartbeat. Once the file is saved to your hard drive, then it can easily be e-mailed (by
attaching the .wav file) or burned to a CD.
